The leg of this journey takes me back to college in 1984. While attempting to become a professional musician, I began to take classes in traditional martial arts and qigong meditation. These opened my eyes to a new way of moving, a new way of being. Over the course of the next ten years I studied with several masters, received a couple of black belts and a lot of experience. I began to teach my own classes always with the emphasis of body awareness, structural integrity and clear thought. Still something was missing. I remembered hearing that the old world masters would always say " Easy it is to hurt someone, Harder it is to heal", so after 20 years of martial practice it was time to go back to school. I chose THE ANN ARBOR INSTITUTE OF MASSAGE THERAPY, one of the finest schools in the country. After graduation I was invited to continue on and complete AAIMT's teaching assistant program. An honor I graciously accepted. I choose to spend my extended time there (3 years) helping to teach and perfect my studies of Shiatsu and Myofascial therapy. During this time I also accepted a position in the physical and occupational therapy department of THE MERCY-MEMORIAL HOSPITAL SYSTEM. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn and treat on a professional orthopedic level. I was able to work along side PTs, OTs and Doctors, with a clientele that most massage therapists will never see.
